About NIDA

National Institute of Development Administration

Established on April 1, 1966, NIDA is an institution for higher education under the Office of Higher Education Commission, Ministry of Education. At its infancy, NIDA received initial help from the Faculty of Political Science, Thammasat University, Department of International Affairs, Ford Foundation, and Midwest University Consortium for International Affairs (MUCIA), acquiring a portion of educating and training programs from Office of National Economic and Social Development.
At present, NIDA has transformed from “government agency” to an institute for higher learning under the affiliation of Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation. The Institute in 2019 was announced for an autonomous university status in the Royal Gazette issued under No. 136 Clause 50 ก dated April 16, 2019, page 117-207.

Philosophy

“WISDOM for Sustainable Development”

The Birth of “Wisdom”
Over the past 15 years, NIDA’s philosophy “Wisdom for Change” had transformed into “Wisdom for Sustainable Development” as the Institute realizes that NIDA must further reflect its role to encompass, in addition to change, wisdom for sustainable development in the society in the international stage. This comprises three main roles: first is creating societal wisdom and development; second is cultivating global leaders for the 21st century; and three is providing social contributions.

Vision

“International Institute for Societal Wisdom and Cultivation of Leaders for Sustainable Development”
The vision transpires onto three expected outcomes:
Wisdom for Sustainable Development
Leaders for Future Changes
Contributions for Community and Society

Graduate School of Human Resource Development

The Graduate School of Human Resource Development was established in 1992, as the first graduate school in Thailand where the Master’s Degree program in HRD was delivered. The school establishment was to serve the 7th National Social and Economic Development Plan (1992-1996).
At the very beginning, the School offered a Master of Development Administration in Management and Human Resource Development in response to the government’s policy and intention. Later it appointed a committee to draft a Master’s degree program in Human Resource Development and changed the title of the program to the “Master of Development Administration in Human Resource Development”. The program was under a newly established department called the “Graduate Project in Human Resource Development” in 1992. The Project was responsible for teaching HRD graduate students and other related work. Associate Professor Dr. Chartchai Na Chiangmai (his academic title at that time) was appointed director of the project, which admitted the first batch of students (the first official-hour program) in the same year.

VISION

The School’s vision is “to be an academic leader in developing human resource and organizations to be sustainable at the international level, with focus on a balance of theory and practice”.
Accomplishment of the vision is considered from
1) the number of HRD innovations each year,
2) being internationally accredited by 2022, and
3) being the HROD hub in the region.

Facilities

NIDA provides its scholars and students with state-of-the-art facilities, including a Living & Digital Library, modern classrooms and conference rooms, computer labs, a robust Wi-Fi network, sports facilities, the NIDA Sampan building (parking), and more.

Medical examinations by internal medicine physicians are offered every Monday and Wednesday from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, while psychiatric consultations are available every Sunday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

NIDA promotes physical well-being by providing facilities for various physical activities, including an indoor gymnasium, outdoor fields, and a fitness center.

Commuting to the NIDA campus by personal vehicle is convenient, as NIDA offers over 1,000 parking spaces. This includes a seven-story parking facility with capacity for more than 700 vehicles and a two-story underground parking area at the Navamindhrathiraj Building with over 400 spaces. Additional parking is also available outside various campus buildings.

Furthermore, to encourage the use of alternative energy, NIDA has installed four electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, branded “EA Anywhere,” for the use of students and staff. This initiative is part of NIDA’s commitment to reducing fuel oil consumption, thereby minimizing greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution.
